Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

“Neighbors are people who live close to each other. Neighbors look at each other. They talk to each other and they listen to each other.  That’s how they get to know each other.” — Mister Rogers aka Fred Rogers

Mister Rogers was known as “America’s favorite neighbor.” He was known for his creativity, kindness, and commitment to his fellow neighbor. His mission was to communicate with families.

He wanted to teach them the importance of having a healthy, social, cognitive relationship within their own family and with others in society.

He was also considered the most beloved friend in his neighborhood.

Can you say that you are the most beloved real estate agent in your neighborhood?

If you’re not quite there yet, then these next tips may be able to help you get there.

Tip #1 The Best RE/MAX Realtors Start With A Plan

In order to set yourself apart from the rest, you must have something more to offer a client than other real estate agents. You need to begin by appreciating your strong suits and realizing your shortcomings.

Then, you need to become an ultimate authority or specialist, if you will. Begin to do that by creating a plan that includes a mission statement.  Luckily as a RE/MAX realtor, you already have a great brand behind you!

No man is an island.  You can not do it all by yourself.  And, you don’t need to know all the answers.  You just need to know where to go, to get all the right answers.

Then, you need to build yourself a network. You need to surround yourself with professional, trustworthy people. Most likely, your expertise is in the knowledge of knowing your local people.

You know about the schools, activities, community events & neighborhoods within your sales market area. You are familiar with its trends and history as well.  That’s a valuable asset. It’s the knowledge that the average agent may not have.

Your Local Area as a Beloved Real Estate Agent

Within your local area, you can search for professional business associates that interact with the real estate industry.  Create your own professional “network team.”

Consider including mortgage brokers, contractors, landscapers, designers, professional organizers, and all other professionals within the home repair field. Select only trusted, reputable companies or agencies that promote excellent customer service.

Once you have your “team”, work with them. Refer them to your potential and current clients. Ask them for referrals as well.  Ask them about offering discounts to your clients. Include each team member’s name, logo, and contact information in all your marketing plans. Ask them to reciprocate, and do the same with you.

Tip #2 Surround Yourself with Professionalism

Work together with your teammates. Go to your team’s social and charitable events. Make your presence known. Make a “pest” of yourself. Be that penny that keeps turning up everywhere. Become a familiar face in your team’s business network.  By being “in their face” you will be remembered.

When one of your teammates begins talking about real estate agents, at their social gathering, your name and face will be at the forefront of their minds.

People like personal recommendations. It gives them reassurance. They like references. Word of mouth is one of the best forms of positive feedback. A favorable reputation and name recognition is the best marketing plan ever.

You can communicate best with your team by listening!

It builds trust in the long run. You learn. You show interest. Likewise, do the same with your clients. It builds a relationship, respect, and compassion when trying to address their needs.

Practice listening more and talking less!!

Tip#3 Establish Your Authority In Your Field

Become an authority or specialist. Find your niche. Where do you excel? Are you proficient at home design or curb appeal and staging? Are you familiar with the local laws and neighborhood trends?

Maybe you’re a specialist in selling single-family homes, condos, or commercial property.  Try to become an expert in at least 1 or 2 facets of your sales market. Perhaps your sales approach and techniques are your strong suit. Never lie to sell a property as your reputation is on the line. Always be honest and upfront with your clients.

Find what it is that will “set you apart “ from the rest. Promote its features. Fit it into your market plan.

Tip #4 RE/MAX Realtors Build and Maintain Relationships

Keep a database of all potential and current buyers. Send them Christmas cards, birthday or anniversary cards. Make a note of any other pertinent specific occasions they may have.

Send them a congratulatory note. Send out a thank you note with a gift card if they send you a referral. It shows interest and appreciation. It adds to that personal touch. Even if they are no longer in the market for new real estate, they may have friends who are interested.

Create a periodic newsletter highlighting the area trends. Include your team. Ask them to write articles. Provide “snip-it” stories of local interest. Offer tips about home design or staging. You can even personalize it with your favorite recipes.

You want your name to be the only one they remember when talking to their friends and neighbors about real estate.

Tip #5 Be An Online Presence

Dealing with millennial buyers, you MUST include digital technology in your plan!

If you have no online presence, you are dead in the water!

You need a professional website as well as a blog. A  blog will position you as an expert in the field. You need to be visible in the social media market when searching for your potential clients. And vice-versa.

Your clients need to be able to find you online. Open houses alone, don’t sell houses anymore. It is very important to include a professional social media expert on your RE/MAX team to help you.

A Step Further to Become A Beloved Real Estate Agent

Create a local group within your local area. It can be offline or online. Let’s say the group name is your local area.  Create a banner to feature You, the Founder! Emphasize that it is brought to you by your local real estate agent, that’s you! Include all your team of professionals somewhere within the banner. List them all, along with their contact information.

The neighborhood group chats allow your neighbors to meet each other. Neighbors can become friends. It gives you and your local businesses exposure, at the same time. Your name is at the forefront of their minds.  And you get credit for taking the initiative to create relationships. And it’s FREE!

You can also use this group and post your RE/MAX listings to promote the area.

Also, in doing this, you will be merely a keystroke away from your group members.  You will be able to help them with questions regarding their real estate needs. You can also help find solutions to any problems they may have.
