Soon after the last article I wrote, “Real Estate Agents – The Happiest Profession – Learn Why!”, I was inundated with questions from friends and acquaintances. They wondered if that claim, from Forbes Magazine, was really true. Then, they began asking whether they could become a successful real estate agent and consider changing careers today.
I love this profession and I love what I do so, of course, my first initial response is, “Yes, it’s true and maybe you should”.
Those questions got me thinking that I should write an article on the qualities needed to be a successful Real Estate Agent!

Let’s face it, not everyone is cut out for certain jobs or careers. It takes certain personality traits and skill sets to be really good at what you do. So to help my friends and acquaintances decide whether a career in Real Estate is right for them, I decided to put a list together. You Work Well With People
Real estate agents love working with people and have the desire to help them. This is at the top of the list because this is a MUST if you really want to work in this real estate industry.
Real estate agents are in a service profession, helping people and enjoying being around people is vital to being successful. You should be passionate about what you are doing as any top real estate agent in the USA is.
You Are Self Motivated
If you have the desire to control your own career and be your own boss, you must have the drive, tenacity, and a hardworking mindset. You won’t last long in real estate if you don’t possess these qualities. You need to be results-driven and forward-thinking to become successful and generate commissions.
Be proactive and ambitious! This is a profession where you normally work independently.
You Are Honest and Have Integrity
You won’t get far in this real estate occupation if you aren’t honest with your clients. Your word means everything and if you don’t have integrity, word will spread about you…. good or bad!
You don’t want to be misleading clients, especially on price. Too many agents price a home over the actual price it can get. This is not good.
If it doesn’t sell the sellers won’t recommend the agent or office to anyone.
You Have a True Interest in the Real Estate Industry
Having a real interest in this industry can give you a big advantage over other agents.
Keeping up with trends and having a good grasp of your local real estate market gives you a leg up on your competition. The best way to do this is to read up on trends in your area regularly.
You Possess A Winning Personality
You’re not just selling property; you’re also selling yourself when people look for the right real estate agent to assist them. A good attitude, being personable, and making people comfortable, friendly, and open are just a few of the traits that clients look for.
Showing you truly care goes a long way with clients during one of the most important times of their lives. Show them that you are trustworthy.
You Are Detail Oriented and Organized
Since you are your own boss, it is imperative that you be conscientious. You can do this by showing attention to every detail and being organized.
These qualities today help you succeed and will get you noticed. It will also make the closing transaction go more seamlessly.

Great communication skills and being a great listener are both very important if you want to keep your client happy. Make sure you always keep your clients abreast of all that is going on.
Be sure to remember to listen to their concerns. It doesn’t take long for a client to get frustrated and move on to another real estate agent if they feel they are not being taken seriously or being a priority.

Working well under pressure and being a multi-tasker is key. These two qualities are really important if you are not a person who can perform well under a lot of stress or pressure.
