It was a perfect day! The air was clear and crisp. The early morning dew was hanging over the corn maze.  The leaves were dancing in the wind.

It was a perfect Pumpkin 🎃 Picking Day in New England!

There were a group of 10 riders on 5 motorcycles heading out for our final Sunday ride of the year. We were rolling through the countryside, in search of the Perfect Pumpkin and perhaps, some “strong” hot cider as well. It could not have been a more picturesque view along our adventure.

As we slowly meandered along the peaceful roadway and passed by the fresh-cut hayfields, our friend broke the silence with a profound statement on the CB. “Hey everyone, look to the right. Do you see that man out in the field? Well, he is a man outstanding in his field.”

Naturally, everyone turned their heads and looked inquisitively.

Well, I couldn’t stop laughing 😆. Duh, it’s a pun, a play on words. Did you get it?

What Does It Mean?

Within the English language, there are Homonyms, words that are spelled the same but have different meanings. But they can take on a different meaning, depending on a simple punctuation mark. In this case, it was merely a space between words.

Such is the case with our friends’ statement above. Did he mean to imply that, “The man is outstanding in his field of hay? Or could he have meant that “The man is outstanding in his field within the farming industry?

Gives you food for thought, doesn’t it? Well, I thought it was quite a clever statement and decided to share it.
